Conservation

Iain Gaul Architects have gained extensive experience in refurbishing listed buildings and buildings within conservation areas.  Several Farm steading conversions have been successfully completed and experience has also be gained  with the refurbishment of properties within the New Town of Edinburgh.
The drawings below provide examples of three projects.

Brunstane Farm Steading, Brunstane Road South, Edinburgh

This is a group of buildings which previously formed the steading at Brunstane Farm, on the east side of Edinburgh. They are Category B listed and are located next to the Category A listed Brunstane House. The existing buildings are grouped round courtyards and illustrated here, is the Horsemill courtyard which has been extensively upgraded and converted into five houses with one existing cottage refurbished. These existing buildings are full of character and include a hexagonal horsemill and an old card-shed with large arch windows.  The site is complete and the houses were very much in demand and sold well.  A full architectural service was provided on this project for Caledonian Trust PLC.  This is one of several farm steading projects which Iain Gaul Architects have assisted in developing.
